It's fascinating to look back even to what Jol did.
He soldified us, he brought in experience in Naybet and Davids to train through Ledley and Carrick (I think that's one of the things which made the Carrick departure so much more disappointing, then under Ramos we had a really decent core and some good balance which needed just a couple more key signings (remember how even Boeteng came to fruition?) only for Levy to not just sell Berba but grimly hold onto him for an extra couple of millions, deprive us of any chance to get a decent replacement, think he's pulled a masterclass in getting Frazier Campbell (!!!!) AND THEN sell Keane right near the end too! Breathtaking...THEN, as
@Jurgen the German and
@Bishop have said, we get the Redknapp era which could've seen us really push on, even under AVB we have moment where Moutinho is actually at our facility and photographed in our shirt yet we somehow f**k that one up for the manager, and then comes the era that many did not fully appreciate as it was happening (Poch) and for me, some of the most egregious moments of all...(I did not expect to end up back at Poch but hey, there we go)...
It feels pretty undeniable that Moerson has made an enormous difference in our transfer activity. I think there's merit to observing that Lange is a youth talent spotter, but when you want to get business done, it seems like you need a guy like Moerson. If the Tonali links deliver -he seems to be a player DeZerbi loves and with whom Tonali has good vibes- then it will mark the fastest and most positive 'for manager' business I think we'll have done in the Prem era.
The other fascinating element is that no manager I can remember has received the carte blanche DeZerbi currently has at the club. New era indeed...
