Sandro Tonali

But he isn’t though is he? He literally transformed Arsenals midfield and is one of the reasons they are so successful.
Not denying that he isn’t a good player, but he is surrounded by good players also and was probably what Arsenal needed.

But some of the fawning over him is quite stupid … on the radio they were giving him the title of the world’s greatest corner taker … I mean seriously wft …

What's funny about some of our supporters is that they -

a) complain that we never spend money
b) complain we won't spend the big wages
c) complain we don't ever sign the big players
d) then complain at the thought of spending the big money
e) then complain we're overpaying for an average to good player
f) then complain the board is getting their pants pulled down and doesn't know what it's doing
g) then complain that they're spending money in areas it isnt needed

...among other things.

It's laughable!!!
It really is!

But along those lines. Say we pull off Tonali, Fernandes or a similar level CM, Savinho and then a 1st XI CF…would it change your mind on Lange?

I've already offered my theory on that above. Rafi Moersen appears to be the man getting the deals actually done. If it is shown that Lange is the man getting the deals done, then yes, it would change my mind on Lange. However, Ally Gold just dropped a piece which backs up what I think is happening...

I wish they'd stuck with those two and not signed Rice, because they absolutely would not have won the league or got to a CL Final IMO...

You're entitled to your opinion mate. I don't really see what he has brought to the team that wasn't already there and in terms of passing & progression of the ball he's a downgrade and part of why their play has become so slow and laboured since.

Rice is absolutely top class, he was at West Ham but of course would never get the plaudits whilst there.

If Rice was at our club people would absolutely be creaming themselves over him, of that I have absolutely no doubt....

On Golds latest vid he says Moersen reports to Lange fwiw.

Good for Lange. Making good hires into his own team is only a positive to me. It's what leadership is all about.

Recruitment is clearly a team sport and our key players seem to be Lange, VV, Rafi and RDZ.

As fans we shouldn't really be apportioning credit or blame to single individuals. It just doesn't work that way.

Found it a bit cringeworthy the way everyone was piling in on Lange last season - no one has a clue who does what, posters constantly asking who is responsible for this that and the other yet the masses stating Lange has to go. If he was culpable for so much and then after this review that has been done he would have been out of the door now.

Personally think Lange appears to be good at recruiting talented young players, it shouldn't be on him to cover all areas so if we have made steps to cover the gaps then great....

I do. A bit like our Dembele when a lot of my mates would ask, 'what does he do, he doesn't score much or assist much?'.
What he does do like our Moussa, he stops other teams getting through our midfield, he also progresses the ball and gives it to those more creative to do their thing. He also gets all over the pitch helping out and rarely misses a game. Has been an extremely important 'cog' in the Arse team, without him they wouldn't have won the league IMO.
That's my take, you're entitled to yours @billyiddo 👍🏻

Yeah I mean he's clearly a top level player and excellent at certain parts of the game - my disagreement was that he transformed their midfield. I don't think that's true. I actually think their midfield has regressed/stalled somewhat over the past couple of seasons though that's more down to the managers approach i supppose. City & Liverpool have both regressed recently - if they hadn't Arsenal probably don't win that title last season

Back to Tonali...

£80m rejected, if we're going higher than that would there be better options available?
No. There's not a better option than your managers first choice target. And besides that, most CMs valued at around £100m mark are already at top clubs and wouldn't be interested. What gives us a chance with Tonali is Saudi Sportswashing Machine not being in Europe, and the Italian connection with RDZ....

Define better.
If the man in charge has a clear picture of what he wants and how the team should play, then the people he needs might not be always deemed better/best Simply better for us.
