World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

Tell you what, the Colombian lad in the centre of their defence has been an absolute stalwart. Composed on the ball, good recoveries, absolutely robbed of a match-winning goal by VAR at the end of the game.
Never slipped over doing an impression of a fawn in roller skates.
Might have been worth a look....

The same was true of Austria and now they’re out courtesy of a 94th minute Algerian winner!! Iran back in! Incredible, and fudging good on them for having to put up with the American political nonsense.

No!!! Austria score in the 96th minute!! 3-3! What the fudge!
 
It's probably sacrilegious to write it but England struggled to play any decent football in 1966 when they won the World Cup. In the qualifying rounds they drew 0-0 with a ultra defensive bunch of Uruguayan thugs, and beat two very average French and Mexican sides 2-0.
The knockout stage beat Argentina 1-0 in a similar game to the Uruguayan game. Argentine captain was sent off, at the end of game Ramsey stopped the England players swapping shirts with opponents and at press conference called them "Animals"
Semi final was their best performance beating an attacking Portugal 2-1.
The final could have gone anyway, was exciting and nerve racking.
I was never a fan of Ramsey style of play but he won.

Edit; not sure why I thought it was an OG. good header. Epic scenes

I wonder if Algeria thought “brick we’re playing Spain” and did their best to concede lol

I think one of the biggest problems with English football is this insistence on playing well in every game. It does not matter at a tournament. But we all know how the English press insist on tearing the team apart and fans just lap it up.

I'm not sure if it was an own goal? Definitely didn't look dodgy though...I think Algeria just got a bit carried away in their celebrations and forgot they still had to defend. Was a great game to watch, especially when you think they'll both just play for a 0-0 and be happy to go through.

People always say England look average, and yet we always get to semis/finals - well at least under Southgate who according to some was utterly clueless so with a coach like Tuchel winning the World Cup should be a breeze :rolleyes:

We always play better against the bigger teams who come onto us, and our play will look better against the likes of Brazil who will not have a low block. I'd be surprised if we didn't beat this Brazil side, even though our defence is not particularly convincing....

Forward wise yes. Defensively they look poor, and could well get found out later in the tournament against one of the better sides...
