Luka Vuskovic

He still played that phase of his career for a top half team while we remained a bottom half one, so a useful parallel

But he went there to win things whatever spin you want to put on it. I think the only sesson Nuucassell finish above us was in the first season he was there, obviously he was disappointed and decided to join a bigger more successful team and joined Birmingham City.

Yeah, because we massively overpaid for another CB that is MAYBE marginally better, and trade off a massive talent who's ceiling is WAY above Van Hecke. Again, just shows that the clown running this club are not fit to purpose.
Vuskovic has taken every level thrown at with, and then some. He'd be just fine. Why else are Brighton after him? Last time I checked, they played in the PL, and finished 10 place higher in the table! If he's good enough for them, then he's more than good enough for us!

Not sure why that’s directed at me. I have consistently said we should keep him and play him.

He could become one of the best in the world. Why would you sit on the bench? He’s got one career, fair play if he wants to go out and play for every week.

We of course don’t know the full story, so I’d be inclined to hold fire criticising either the club or him at this point. No doubt far more to it than any of us know.
I’m actually not criticising him. I find it difficult to criticise a 19 kid looking to make the best decision for his career. And it’s the right decision for him. CB is a position that needs experience, which means games. Another year starting is equivalent to 2 or 3 years as a squad player for us.

I was simply responding to your comment that him going on loan or permanently are different things. I was just pointing out out they amount to the same thing for us this coming season. No Spurs.

BTW I agree I can’t hold anything against the club either because we’re not privy to any discussions that have occurred between the parties. So it’s all speculation at this point

Nah, I think the value of VH as viewing RDZ like a second father is going to outweigh his value purely as a centre back. In terms of creating alignment in the squad and buy in, having someone in the squad who has worked with him before and thinks he walks on water is going to be great. Not withstanding he has proper PL experience when we need more of that.

I’m also not as concerned about selling Vuskovic if it comes to it, because we’ll get a huge fee for nothing. I’m a big fan of the NBA and you see teams making trades all the time, letting good young players go because they’re making a strategic bet that the players they get in return are more aligned with their on court strategy. Or you’re letting picks go for proven players because you’re in a win now moment. Either way it’s just cycles, as long as you have a good front office with an actual strategy.

If we lose LV, it will be a shame. But we’ll get a chunk of change that will allow us to spend more elsewhere. We’re in a moment of going for experience, and hopefully we’ll see the fruits of that in the next 2-3 years.

Why not take a loan to a PL side and come back and start for us later? I think it’s money. And again, fair play to him for getting what he can, but it’s not about the ‘best thing for his career’ because a loan and then coming back to us gets him to where he wants to be all the same. But I think it’s probably that he doesn’t want to sign a longer contract and we don’t want to give him a pay rise without a longer contract. So we are where are.

If that’s true though, his ‘I want to be with a club that wants me’ quote is just pretty low. A 19 year old acting like a diva like that is extremely unbecoming.

I always think footballers often fail to think about the long term well enough. I can see the idea that he sees us signing VH and Senesi and decides that we don’t want him. But it’s clearly a response to having a wildly inexperienced squad and needing to counteract that. It’s nothing to do with our long term belief in him. And the likelihood is once we’re back in Europe and stabilised in the league he’d have more than enough minutes.

It just seems like needless posturing. The only other thing that makes sense is if he feels a permanent move gives him a boost in salary, and we’ve refused to give him a wage rise on his long contract.
He's 19.

Unless he's unbelievably mature....'adults' will be yakking in his ear.

Adults will. But we give plenty of credit to young lads who seem mature, don’t sound off in the press and talk like they have a ‘good head on their shoulders’ and so I think it’s fair criticism to think the ‘I want to be at a club that wants me’ is just a poor showing and quite regrettable.

Harry Kane came through the youth team was already England captain and went on Gary Neville before no showing training to try and engineer a move.

If the manager wanted Vuscovic for this season over Van Hecke it would have been very easy for him to have just brought Vuscovic in. I love to criticise the club admin but this time it's really nothing to do with them. The manager wants his player and we got him that player, someone he clearly rates more than Vuscovic currently.

It was hard to take, but tolerable, when Bale and Modric's ambitions exceeded ours. But its testament to how far we've fallen since 2019 that we can't match the ambition of a 19 YO
You have that completely backwards.

If we’re saying to him that he’s not yet good enough to start regularly for us, how does that mean we aren’t matching his ambitions? It means that ours are higher than where he currently is.

My point isn’t that good lads can’t sometimes go to the dark side, more just that we praise plenty of players for not doing what Vuskovic is doing, or what Kane did in that moment. And I think most people saw Kane’s actions there as regrettable too, even if you could see his point that Levy’s running of the club wasn’t going to match his ambitions.

I just think Vuskovic is acting poorly. I think he wants more money, which is fine. But acting like the club doesn’t want him, rather than preferring he takes a PL loan for a season, is just a bit bricky.
