And that, hopefully, is where De Zerbi earns his money by making the big call and saying, 'Yes. That's the man who will help hugely with the system I will bring to Spurs'. Even if we don't all see it. And Lord knows football fans have trust issues with managers buying big-money players.

He is extremly specific about what he likes and anything outside of that will be dismissed.

I agree. That is where RDZ needs to build his stock. He would surely know that if he spent mega bucks on a player in one position then there would be trade-offs in others. I genuinely hope he is the manager that brings quality, not quantity to Spurs.

I think this difference of opinion is probably more about how highly you rate his controlling and passing ability as opposed to him not having it all.

Personally I wouldn't class Rice as a Regista but I've seen people try and label him as such. Pirlo, Alonso, Busquets, Vitinha, Kimmich are players that carry that title.

Rice and other players like him, see loads of the ball, pick it up from the back but don't dictate the flow and pace of the game. I've never seen Rice and thought that he always has time on the ball, is always ahead in his mind etc, similarly with Tonali. He has passing ability and is a very good player, funnily enough his athleticism took his development towards that 6/8 hybrid that a lot of players are now rather than a pure stroll around with a glass of wine in one hand pinging the ball around for fun type player.
 
Obviously a quality player. Are we leaving some in the tank for forwards? Or do we believe Tel and Richy are good enough!?
