Luka Vuskovic

Get £60m put a buy back clause in so we get first refusal for x amount everyone wins.

He is clearly not as rated with our coaching staff as he is with our fan base. If he is as good as GB and the like think, why hasn’t Bayern come in for him?
The thing about a buy back clause is that a player can agree to sign for you even if the two clubs agree. At thr very least we should have a 50 percent sell on clause. Alternatively, we just say no.

Asked about his future, Vuskovic admitted that while his focus was on helping Croatia at the World Cup, he wanted to play for a club that wanted him.
"For now I’m focused only on the World Cup,” Vuskovic said.
“My goal next season is to play for a club that wants me and where I will play. We’ll see what happens in the coming days and weeks."

My guess would be that if we sell rather than loan it's because we want/need the cash to rebuild the squad now. If we didn't then I'm sure a loan would be the path we would be taking. Can't blame RDZ, he won't be around to benefit from the player if he doesn't succeed in the short term so that needs to be his focus re the transfer market.

Him becoming a generational talent won't make or break us as a team and we've seen plenty of hyped youngsters not make the grade so i can see why the manager would make the choice of selling now, if that's the case.

I suppose a big enough sale could enable one more player in who can make immediate impact, if we don't believe Vuskovic can yet.
BUt a player being sold to Brighton is simply moving on in a few years for more money so we don't let him go on the cheap without a sell-on clause, especially not after the money they got out of us for Van Hecke in the last year of his contract. And considering what was paid for Leny Yoro and the French lad that Liverpool got a year ago

It seems to me that the boy is unhappy because we have not guaranteed him a starting role next season.

The only way his quotes make the remotest sense is that if we as a club have communicated that we actually don’t want him. Otherwise he is being a complete diva.

There’s a world of difference between ‘we want you to take another loan in the PL, and come back ready for us like Saliba’ and ‘we don’t want you.’

I’m still not any clearer on why a permanent move gets him any closer to Munich or Madrid than a loan and performing well for us in the subsequent years.

I think Vuskovic is the real deal, and will become a top top centre back. HOWEVER, I also think that, in JPvH and Senesi we've got two centre backs who are ahead of him at the moment. Senesi looks pretty damn good – the type who lifts others around him – while JPvH looks to have attributes that our current manager wants and, importantly, has worked with him before.

If that was all, we could keep Vuskovic and, as 3rd choice CB, he'll get a healthy wodge of game time. However, we also have VdV and Romero, both of whom have shown that they can be much better defenders than than they have been for the last two seasons. The problem is that they have not done well as a pairing. It may be that JPvH-VdV or Senesi-Romero can become our new Toby and Jan instead.

Vuskovic plus a year's Prem experience (assuming he takes to it as well as he's taken to the Bundesliga) would be good enough to walk into our side. Right not, not quite. And the problem with loaning him to a PL side is that, well, we've just finished 17th twice so almost any other team would be a step up in theory.

RDZ has done the right thing in buying JPvH and Senesi, IMHO. Build from the back and, if good defenders are available, get them. They are less of a gamble than Vuskovic. If we're going to play two CBs, there just isn't room for him unless both VdV and Romero are off. If it's a back 3, well, that could work if just of our senior defenders packs his bags.

I've not even mentioned Danso, who's a player I've got a lot of time for. If he's happy to stick around as backup, I will be very happy indeed.

Maybe his issue is that we haven’t had those discussions and he’s seen us sign two experience PL center backs and (quite rightly) questions whether staying at Spurs is the best thing for his career.

Noises from both him and his agent have been going on for some time before we signed these two CBs. Last season there were direct quotes from Vuskovic saying he wants to stay at Hamburg another season to play with his brother - its been a constant topic of conversation sound bites from him and his camp about not being here, it hasn't just come out of nowhere from the last week or two....

Staying out on loan and getting a permanent move to another PL club are a bit different.

That's exactly what I feel too. In fact since he went to Hamburg I've seen nothing that suggests that he (and by 'he' I mean him and his 'team') has any interest in Spurs. Now he expects us to guarantee him a starting place to allow him to build his profile and secure a move to one of the 'top' clubs that are allegedly super keen on him. I don't know exactly why another loan is so unacceptable to him but he seems determined to get a permanent move and has been gradually ramping up the pressure on the club. Liking the Romano's instagram message and the quotes in the Evening Standard about playing for a club "that wants me" seem like the next step. There's also a story that he is prepared to submit a formal transfer request although I see that as a tactic rather than reality. I don't believe for a second that Spurs has said that they don't want him but I hope they have made it clear that they are not simply going to bend over to give Vuskovic what he wants when he wants it. This is a 19 year old who has never played a first team game, not played in the PL or in a back four and has done pretty well for one season on loan, still has four years soon his contract but seems to want to dictate when and where he will play. For me, however good he might be in the future, he's already close to being too much trouble and a decent profit and a reasonable sell on clause wouldn't bother me too much.

It smells like balancing zero net spend again

- Two frees
- Romero pays for van Hecke
- Vuscovic pays for Savinho
- Bergvall pays for new CM
- Remaining deadwood cobbled together pays for CF
