Who’s to say he doesn’t get in front of Senesi in a year? Who’s to say we don’t plan on using Senesi more in the coming season because he’s an experienced head, but with European football likely the season after next and a recovered culture and more solid standing in the league, we’d be more willing to use a prospect again?
I don’t think blaming money is lazy at all. I think it’s ridiculous that he clearly thinks he’s as good as he is and yet doesn’t believe there’s a path into our team after a strong PL loan. Why wouldn’t he want to go? Because playing for Tottenham in the Premier League is more prestigious and will earn him more money and will be the best training ground for playing like a ‘big club’ that he could ask for. He has to back himself that after a good PL loan he will come back and have that available to him.
I just don’t think he and his team think they need Spurs anymore. And I think they want to get out of the long term contract they’ve signed. I think we’d be more than willing to loan him and boost his wages so long as he extends his contract by a couple years. But I don’t think he wants that. I think he thinks he can get to Bayern or similar in 2 years, and probably thinks he can get a 3-4x boost on his wages if he gets a permanent move now, on the way to a bigger move still in a couple of years.
The idea that he doesn’t have a path at Spurs is ridiculous. The context of the next season (needing more experience, and no European football) will likely be very different to the one following. I just don’t think he thinks he needs us anymore. A permanent move boosts his wages, a loan doesn’t. But a loan and coming back and performing for us would get him to Bayern or similar all the same, and probably prepared better for it. He just doesn’t think the juice is worth the squeeze at Spurs.
